“On the move" is the 2009 Annual Report of the Business and Biodiversity Programme (BBP)
The report reflects the progress made by BBP last year. The stories selected are a balanced representation of BBP’s work in 2009 to deliver the IUCN programme for 2009-2012. Intrinsically linked to biodiversity are four of humankind’s greatest challenges and the four focus areas of the IUCN programme: climate change, energy, livelihoods and economics. This document is a complete revision of the 2006 Operational Guidelines for Private Sector Engagement (developed in response to Resolutions 3.060 and 3.061 and presented to and noted by the IUCN Council in May 2006), in response to Resolution 4.086 adopted at the 4th IUCN World Conservation Congress (Barcelona, 2008). This revised version of the Operational Guidelines for Private Sector Engagement was adopted by the IUCN Council at its 72nd meeting, Gland, 2-4 February 2009. The present document brings together all the private sector related activities proposed by the different component programmes for the 2009 - 2012 quadrennial. It was created in response to resolution 3.060 from the IUCN 3rd World Conservation Congress in Bangkok that invited the Director General to submit a detailed proposal for IUCN-private sector relations to the 4th World Conservation Congress. This final document will be referred to in the report on progress on implementation of the resolutions which will be communicated to Members before the Barcelona Congress. Download.

IUCN’s work with the business community is based on numerous Resolutions and Recommendations of the World Conservation Congress, Council decisions, Secretariat policy statements and organizational reviews. This mandate recognizes the significant environmental impact of many industries, but also the potential of the private sector to contribute to conservation.
