Climate change is already altering the distribution of species and the make-up of ecosystems. To be effective, conservation practice must plan for the growing impacts of climate change. IUCN mobilizes research to measure the impacts climate change is having on biodiversity and to identify conservation and mangement solutions. For example, connecting habitats has a key role to play in enabling nature to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Further, ecosystems can store carbon and maintain the critical ecosystem services on which livelihoods depend on.
IUCN expert Commission networks, members, partners and staff use sound scientific expertise in conservation and sustainable natural resource management to produce tools and guidelines on climate change. They work to ensure that political decisions at any level are based on the best available science, and have received inputs from a wide set of relevant stakeholders.
